Qualified Charitable Distribution

There is a tax-smart way to make an impactful charitable gift using your traditional or Roth IRA. The Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD (also called the IRA charitable rollover ), is a great way to make a tax-free gift to CSUSB and satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).

Flowchart:
Step 1: Donor completes IRA Rollover Form with IRA custodian
Step 2: Up to $100K from IRA gifted to CSUSB; Donor's RMD satisfied

Benefits of a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

  • Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $105,000 from your IRA to CSUSB
  • May satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year
  • Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
  • Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts
  • Help further the mission of CSUSB with an impactful gift

How a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) works

  1. Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to CSUSB
  2. Your IRA funds will be transferred directly to CSUSB to continue to solidify the future
  3. Please note that Qualified Charitable Distribution gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction
  4. Please contact us to let us know if you have set up a QCD so that we can ensure the transfer is received, and also let us know if you would like your gift to be used for a specific purpose
