Qualified Charitable Distribution
There is a tax-smart way to make an impactful charitable gift using your traditional or Roth IRA. The Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD (also called the IRA charitable rollover ), is a great way to make a tax-free gift to CSUSB and satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
Flowchart:
Step 1: Donor completes IRA Rollover Form with IRA custodian
Step 2: Up to $100K from IRA gifted to CSUSB; Donor's RMD satisfied
Benefits of a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
- Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $105,000 from your IRA to CSUSB
- May satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year
- Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions
- Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts
- Help further the mission of CSUSB with an impactful gift
How a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) works
- Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to CSUSB
- Your IRA funds will be transferred directly to CSUSB to continue to solidify the future
- Please note that Qualified Charitable Distribution gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction
- Please contact us to let us know if you have set up a QCD so that we can ensure the transfer is received, and also let us know if you would like your gift to be used for a specific purpose
